About RMT

Our History RMT & VANWORKS INC.

Vanworks Inc. began in 1978 in the mind of Keith E. Hess, who now serves as president.  With a construction background specializing in carpentry, he built the vans one at a time.  Production was about one custom van per month on a part time basis.

In 1983, Vanworks moved into a 3,000 sq. ft. facility at 360 Jefferson Street with two employees.  Vans were gaining popularity as family vehicles and there were very few pre-owned vans on the market.  Retail customers began buying new vans at dealerships and bringing them in to be customized.

By the mid 1980's the availability of pre-owned conversion vans was better and the retail business began to slow down.  Keith began targeting dealers which created immediate volume demands and made it necessary to expand into the building next door at 400 Jefferson.  Later he acquired the building at 900 East Lincoln Ave, which housed the first paint shop and provided additional storage.

As more and more converters were working on new vehicles for dealers, the manufacturers began to experience warranty problems with conversion vans.  To control the problems, they introduced a policy that in order to be eligible to convert their product, the converters had to be authorized by each vehicle manufacturer.  Vanworks was first authorized by General Motors in 1989 and added Ford, Dodge and GMC soon thereafter.  With increasing awareness of quality and safety restraints from "FMVSS" (and on sight Engineering Assessments), the number of converters was cut by 75% almost overnight and thus vastly increasing volume potential for authorized converters.

By the late 1990's consumer preference shifted away from Vans and Vanworks began to enter into the Truck & SUV market.  Thus, Rocky Mountain Truckworks was born.

Today RMT converts Trucks, SUVs, and Custom Vans through RMT & Vanworks Inc.  The same manufacturing principals once instilled by Keith Hess still hold true today.  RMT uses only the highest quality aftermarket parts, employs ASE certified technicians and resides in a state of the art 75,000 sq.ft facility.

RMT is poised for a strong reemergence in the conversion industry fueled by fundamental manufacturing principals and a dedication to deliver the best product possible!
