Spin Your Tooling, Not Your Pipe
Power plants, fuel refineries, chemical processing, and other industries that transport fluid and gas require robust piping systems. Fabricating the pipes onsite can lengthen construction time and risk quality, so most facilities will choose to have segments of pipe, known as pipe spools, fabricated and processed offsite in a more controlled environment.
The traditional fabrication of pipe spools has usually involved boring mills or hollow spindle lathes, but such processes can be clumsy and time-consuming, and generally have a poor track record when it comes to the accuracy of complex bevels.
With the unveiling of the Pipe Spool Master™ series, Revolution Machine Tools has provided their customers in the pipe fabrication industry with a competitive advantage over the competition. Unlike a lathe, where a pipe segment would do the spinning, RMT’s machines hold the pipe stationary while the tool spins around the end of the workpiece. Not only does this allow pipes of any length to be accommodated, but the process is cooler—and safer—than using a lathe.
